After 22 years, WinRAR officially discontinued the CD installer

The CD version of the WinRAR installer officially becomes a “limited” product from today.

On May 31, WinRAR, a famous data compression software, officially discontinued the CD version after 22 years of launch.

WinRAR CD is an optical disc used to install WinRAR software, including the license key and other necessary information. When purchasing a WinRAR license, users can choose to receive the CD copy by mail.

According to WinRAR, the reason they stopped producing WinRAR CD is because the CD factory stopped operating and the demand for this CD version is no longer high. “For everyone who owns WinRAR CD, congratulations! Now you have become cooler!”, WinRAR shared in the official announcement on social network X.

WinRAR then continued to post an image of “the last WinRAR CD” with the content: “One of the last WinRAR CDs has found a new home.”

WinRAR first launched in 2002 and quickly became one of the most popular data compression software in the world. This software is popular for its effective data compression capabilities, simple and easy-to-use interface and support for many different file formats.

WinRAR’s discontinuation of the CD version marks a turning point in the history of this software, showing the software industry’s change towards digitalization. Today, users can easily download and install WinRAR directly from the company’s official website without having to use a CD.

However, WinRAR still offers an offline installation version for users who do not have an internet connection or want to install the software on multiple computers.

WinRAR is a popular file compression and decompression software developed by Eugene Roshal, a Russian software engineer. First launched in the fall of 1993, WinRAR quickly became one of the top choices for Windows users thanks to its effective data compression capabilities and support for a variety of file formats.

WinRAR offers a 40-day free trial version, after which users can purchase a license. However, most WinRAR features can still be used normally after the 40-day period ends. This leads to spending money to buy WinRAR being considered a meme (joke) on the Internet, and those who buy this software deserve to be “honored”.
