MacBook battery life is extended when Google updates Chrome browser
Google has just made some changes on the update of its chrome browser to help prolong the battery life of MacBook laptops.
As google reports, through the JavaScrip timer and memory compression optimization, MacBook users can use a web browser with chrome or use tasks such as watching movies, watching youtube, … above. Chrome apps, battery life will be longer than before.
Experts tested on MacBook Pro 13 (M2 chip, 2022) reaching 17 hours of web browsing and 18 hours of YouTube video playback.
But before the Chrome update, Google did not provide details about the device’s battery metrics. So it is not clear whether the above information is completely accurate or not.
But the tech giant claims these new improvements also work for the hardware in the lower-end MacBooks. Francois Doray, software developer for Chrome also confirmed that these update optimizations will also be applied to Linux, Android or Windows devices in the upcoming browser release. So in addition to the MacBook can extend battery life, other models also have the same ability when using Chrome.
To be able to do that, Google has tweaked garbage collection and memory compression, thereby reducing the machine’s power consumption without affecting memory usage.
As for the JavaScript timer, which is responsible for executing a function at a specific time, Google has also adjusted it so that there are no more outdated timers like before.
