World’s Fastest Phone Charger Revealed: Fully Charges in 5 Minutes!

Scientists have revealed the world’s fastest smartphone charging technology, which can fully charge a smartphone in less than 5 minutes.

The fast charging technology breaks a new record. It can fully charge your smartphone battery in 5 minutes, faster than it takes you to write an email.

The 320-watt fast charging technology, named “320W SuperSonic Charge”, was developed by the Chinese consumer electronics company Realme. It surpasses all previous chargers in terms of speed. The previous record was set by smartphone maker Redmi, a subsidiary of Xiaomi. They introduced 300W technology capable of charging a device in 4 minutes and 55 seconds in February 2023.

Realme representatives showcased the groundbreaking technology at the Realme 828 Fanfest event held in Shenzhen, China on August 14th. This record-setting fast-charging technology can power up a smartphone battery to 26% in a mere 1 minute and reach 50% capacity in less than 2 minutes. A full charge is achieved in an impressive 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

Unlike conventional charging technology, in which power is delivered to one or more battery cells in sequence, fast charging technology simultaneously charges multiple battery cells in a single battery.

During the demonstration, Realme representatives fast-charged a folding battery design with a capacity of 4,420 milliampere-hours, stacked four cells on top of each other. This design offers 10% more capacity than conventional designs, the company representative said.

According to a promotional video posted on the social platform X, scientists shrunk each battery cell into multi-layer structures to pack more charge into a smaller space before folding the four cells to mimic the shape of a satellite panel.

The company has also developed a power adapter, dubbed the “Pocket Cannon,” boasting a power density of 3.3 watts per cubic centimeter. It can power other devices, such as iPhones equipped with a USB-C port, although charging speeds may vary. Realme’s prior technology was capable of fully charging the Realme GT Neo 5 smartphone in under 10 minutes.

The new adapter can be used with multiple fast charging standards, the company representative said, including UFCS, PD, and SuperVOOC, and has two USB-C ports so users can charge two devices at the same time. The maximum charging speed is up to 150W for Realme smartphones and 65W for compatible laptops.

Realme representatives also revealed an “AirGap” voltage transformer, which ensures that high voltage is isolated from the smartphone battery in the event of any electrical problems such as circuit failures. This is to prevent damage to the smartphone.

The transformer works on a principle called “contactless electromagnetic conversion.” This small transformer steps down the voltage to 20 volts to protect battery life and helps the fast charger maintain 93% power efficiency while charging.
